Vertical rhythms of light
Originally introduced in 1958, Model 2095 returns as a new clustered suspension within Astep’s Sphere Collection, introducing a distinctly vertical composition to the series.
Designed by Gino Sarfatti, the system belongs to the designer’s experimental “2000” series of suspension lamps developed during a period of close collaboration with architects and bespoke interior projects. Sarfatti frequently approached lighting not as isolated objects, but as spatial compositions tailored to architecture and atmosphere.
Long before clustered glass pendants became a familiar language in contemporary interiors, Sarfatti explored the architectural potential of suspended illuminated spheres through Model 2095. The design is considered among the earliest examples of cascading glass globe compositions, using minimal structural intervention to allow light itself to define the form. At the time, the approach was highly innovative. Rather than conceiving the piece as a traditional chandelier, Sarfatti developed a modular lighting system organised through verticality, rhythm and suspension.
This interpretation continues that original idea. The vertical cluster introduces a different expression within the Sphere Collection — one that emphasises height, movement and spatial layering. Conceived with flexibility in mind, the system can be adapted across scales and contexts, from residential interiors to hospitality and contract environments.
Flexibility was central to Sarfatti’s practice. Throughout his career, he frequently developed bespoke lighting solutions tailored to the specific needs of projects and interiors. That same spirit informs Model 2095 Cluster today, designed as a modular system that allows for extensive customisation in both composition and expression. Rather than a singular object, the collection functions as a spatial tool, bringing atmosphere and dimensionality to interiors through light, repetition and vertical form.
Available in configurations of 1, 5, 7, 9 or 12 pendants, Model 2095 Cluster combines luminous opal or transparent glass spheres with structural elements in champagne or black finish. Each sphere measures Ø14 cm.
