Designed by Gino Sarfatti 1971/2024
Designed in Italy in 1971 reflecting the vision and mastery of Gino Sarfatti, Astep now introduces MODEL 262 as part of The Gino Sarfatti Collection.
The iconic masterpiece is a tribute to modernist design express- ing Sarfatti’s inventive search for using light in its most honest and essential way.
The idea of the lamp is simply to give stage to the light bulb. Taking the presence and shape of a mirrored bulb as a starting point, the reflector elegantly supports, enhances, and gently dif- fuses the light source to achieve the best quality of light.
Sarfatti’s talent as both a designer and engineer is evidently present in the design, enabling him to create a refined piece both aesthetically and functionally. The lamp – as a solitary piece or grouped – is as much timeless art on any wall or ceiling as it is an imprint of pure function devised from thoughtful, explora- tional engineering.
The piece was already an innovative statement at its time, paired down to its core intention. Instead of a covered finish, the raw surface of the spun aluminum reflector channels the industrial process. The result is honest, provoking thought in its simplicity.
