Climate Commitment

We recognise that our business has an impact on the climate. Impact which comes from our office operations, business travel, products, materials and supply chain. We support the global ambition of limiting global warming to 1,5°C and are committed to taking practical steps to reduce emissions across our business. To help turn this commitment into action, we have developed the following climate action plan and targets.

Where We Focus Our Efforts
We know that the largest share of emissions is likely to be found in our value chain, including the materials, components, manufacturing processes and transportation associated with our products. Because we do not directly control these activities, the targets in our climate action plan focus on areas where we can take action ourselves and where we are able to measure progress over time. At the same time, we continuously work closely with our suppliers and manufacturing partners to reduce emissions connected to our products. While we cannot control every part of the value chain, climate considerations are an ongoing part of our product development. Some examples include increasing the use of recycled materials and designing products so that parts can be repaired or replaced.

Climate Targets and Actions
The following actions and targets have been developed based on Astep’s operations and the areas where we believe we can achieve reductions. They have been developed using the SMART framework. This means they are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. Responsibility for implementing the plan is shared across the company. Depending on the action, the implementation can involve employees working in product development, sales, marketing or management. Progress will be reviewed regularly, and the plan is updated every three years.

  1. By 2030 calculate product carbon footprints for products representing at least 50% of annual turnover and identify emissions reduction opportunities for each assessed product.

Background: Most emissions connected to Astep’s business are linked to the materials, manufacturing and transportation of our products. Understanding where these emissions occur can help us identify opportunities for improvement and make more informed decisions in our product development.

Responsibility: The Sustainability Specialist is responsible for coordinating the work and collecting the required data. Management will help identify the product groups to be assessed. Where relevant, external experts may be involved to support or review the calculations. The work will be carried out in dialogue with suppliers and manufacturing partners.

2. By 2030, include sustainability-related material requirements in the design brief for 100% of new product development projects.

Background: The design brief is one of Astep’s main opportunities to influence the environmental impact of our new products. By including requirements related to material selection, recycled content circularity or other sustainability considerations, climate considerations can become part of the design process from the beginning.

Responsibility: The Product Selection team and management team are responsible for implementing this target through their work with designers. The sustainability requirements will be included in design briefs and discussed with designers throughout the development process.

3. By 2030, reduce the number of freight damage claims by 30% compared to a 2025 baseline.

Background: Packaging is something Astep continuously works with. The goal is to protect products during transport while avoiding unnecessary material use. Some product groups experience more freight damages than others, resulting in replacement products and additional shipments. By identifying the products with the highest number of damage claims and improving packaging where needed, Astep can reduce unnecessary emissions connected to manufacturing and transport.

Responsibility: The Sales Coordination team is responsible for tracking freight damage claims, and the Product Development team is responsible for improving packaging where needed. The work will be carried out together with packaging suppliers and logistics partners.
