Upglas lamp by Luca Nichetto featured on Dezeen Showroom. A project that reflects a continued exploration of material and process.
Upglas is shaped from reclaimed glass — each piece carrying subtle variations that make every lamp unique. The result is a balance between precision and unpredictability, where material history becomes part of the final expression.
Forgotten fragments of precious Murano glass, sorted by colour, ground into powder, bound with rehub patented biodegradable resin into a paste as workable as clay. Cast by hand. Heated at just 400°C. Sculpted into light.
Thank you to Luca Nichetto and rehub for bringing this vision to life, and to Dezeen for the feature.

“When I first saw this new material, I got the idea of rolling and spreading it by hand, much like you would roll a flour dough to make pizza, and then shape it into a mould,” explains designer Luca Nichetto.
Drawing on Murano’s legacy as the epicentre of exceptional glasswork and artisan excellence, Nichetto was instrumental in choosing a new production method developed with Rehub. The colours of leftover glass are first sorted, then ground until they become a powder-like compound. A special patented, biodegradable resin is finally added, resulting in a paste similar to clay in its consistency and flexibility of use. The cast is then heated at 400 degrees Celsius, much lower than the typical 1,200 degrees used for glass products.
